Principal for a Day We will have our first “guest” principal for the day tomorrow, May 9 – Mr. Preston Fisher! Preston has declared the day “Favorite Sport’s Jersey and Jeans” day. Students may wear a jersey that represents any of their favorite teams, in any sport, at any level (high school, college, pro). School tennis shoes must be worn with the jersey and jeans. Preston will spend the day working with Dr. Newman, then he and a selected friend will enjoy an off-campus lunch with Dr. Newman and Mrs. Tobin! We thank Preston’s grandparents for purchasing this special treat for him at this year’s school auction.
Principal for a Day - 2 Ms. Alana Metzger will be our “Principal for a Day” on Friday, May 16. Ms. Metzger wants all students to have a free dress day! Students will be allowed to wear clothing and shoes of their choice (in keeping with school guidelines in the Parent/Student Handbook, of course!) School tennis shoes must be brought to school for PE class. Hair, makeup, and jewelry rules do not change – they must follow school policy. Thank you to Alana’s parents for their support at the Auction!
Incentive for Referrals We are offering a $100 tuition reduction for any St. Pius School family who refers a new family to our school. Please tell your friends and family about the great education your child receives here at St. Pius X. Tell us when your referred family is accepted, and we will credit your tuition for $100.
5th Grade Auction Prize The fifth grade girls whose parents bought them a special prize at this year’s Auction will have their sleepover on Friday, May 9. The girls will partake in pizza, games, and all-out-fun. The sleepover will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and be over at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. They will spend time in the youth room and media center. Thank you to the parents who pulled together to purchase this event for the girls. We also thank Mrs. Barta and Ms. Farmer for offering this prize, as well as the mom’s who will be helping chaperone the event.
A Pentecost Celebration We encourage everyone to come to St. Pius Church this Saturday evening, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. to hear the televangelist speaker, Tim Staples. Tim is a convert to Catholicism and has a great story to tell, as well as being very knowledgeable about the Catholic faith, having studied it extensively. The music by Don Norville that will be a part of the evening should be outstanding!
Last PTO Meeting-Please Come! We hope to see everyone at our last PTO meeting for this year. Officers and class reps will be elected, and there are still vacant positions that need to be filled. The SPX yard signs will also be available for pick up. The meeting will be May 13 at 7:00 p.m. in room 401 in the gym building.
Alumni News We are proud of alumna, Samantha Jester, who will graduate in the top 5% of her class! Great job!
Please email astover@spxdallas.org to sign up for cafeteria duty. We need your help!
Spring Sports Banquet Information about the spring sports banquet on May 23 is posted on Renweb. Please check it out and make plans for your family to attend if your child participated in a spring sport at St. Pius School through the Dallas Parochial League. Reservations for the spring sports banquet are due by Wednesday, May 21.
Service Project Our 5th graders are in the process of performing service hours at the North Texas Food Bank. Mrs. Barta’s class went this week, and Ms. Farmer’s class will go next week. The students are helping separate and shelve donated food. This is an excellent project that will help teach our children that they are responsible for taking care of their fellow human beings. We thank Ms. Farmer and Mrs. Barta for setting up this great learning experience. We also thank Mrs. Debbie Merkel for going with the students and Mr. Mike Rochester for driving the bus.
Safe Environment Info – Please Read! We know that all our school parents have been informed – through meetings, verbally, and in the Parent/Student Handbook – that they must complete the annual Safe Environment program at St. Pius before they will be allowed to help with activities on campus or chaperone off-campus events. It is the parents’ responsibility to keep themselves updated and cleared. If you have any questions about your status, please contact Ginger Farrell, and she can help you. There is an on-line safe environment screening form available on the St. Pius website in both English and Spanish. Prior to attending a training session, follow the safe environment link to complete the form on-line. The completed form will be electronically sent to our Safe Environment director. This is for new volunteers only. Veteran volunteers do not need to complete this form. Pre-screened volunteers needing to complete their annual training should visit the website for several options. Please be sure to keep your safe environment training up-to-date, as it is mandatory that all volunteers wear their badge every time they are on campus. Questions may be directed to Ginger Farrell at gfarrell@spxdallas.org or 972-279-6155.
Yearbooks It is time to order your 2007-2008 yearbook! Hopefully, we will be able to send home order forms today, but we may not receive the forms by the end of the school day. If we do not get them today, we will send them home as soon as we receive them. The cost for a yearbook is $28, and all order forms and money must be turned in by May 23. We know we had a problem with the yearbook covers last year, so we are returning to a hard cover for this year’s book.
Youth Ministry News Our 6th–8th graders may still sign up to participate in "Mission Possible" 2008 service week June 8-12. The cost for youth participants is $45 which covers the rally (at Bishop Lynch), snacks, t-shirts, supplies for the week and a trip to Hawaiian Falls on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. If you are interested, please contact Samantha Patterson at (972) 682-3585 or spatterson@spxdallas.org.
We are proud of our Robotics Team for their participation in this year’s competition! Thank you to Mr. Saldana for working with the boys throughout the year. Thank you also to Mrs. Liz Angelier for filling in for Mr. Saldana when he was injured.
We welcome a new superintendent for the Diocese of Dallas Catholic schools – Sr. Gloria Cain. Sr. Gloria will begin her new job July 1, 2008.
Don’t forget Mrs. Schermann tomorrow – it is School Nurse Appreciation Day!
In observance of Mother’s Day, our 1st graders have invited their moms for “Muffins with Mom” tomorrow morning.
Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful school moms! We appreciate everything you do for your children and for our school! |
