MISSION STATEMENT

With Christ's teaching to Love One Another as the foundation, the Roman Catholic Church of St. Pius X is committed to know, love and serve Jesus by promoting worship, education, and pastoral care in our community.

Adult Faith Formation Team (AFF): Provides opportunities for individual spiritual formation throughout the spiritual lifecycle. Will be the driving force behind the parish "Why Catholic” evangelization process beginning fall, 2006. Contact: Teri Dres, 972-279-2876. 

Baptism Preparation: Held monthly in English and Spanish, this class promotes family spirituality, Christian parenting, Christian values, as well as teaching about this sacrament of welcome. Call the church office, 972-279-6155, to register. Parents with young families are also needed to assist at the classes by providing hospitality and sharing their stories. 

Bible School: IRPS Biblical School intensive course covers both Old and New Testaments over 4 years. $375 per student, some financial arrangements are available. Contact IRPS, 972-721-5105. 

Bible Study: Adults/English - 1st and 3rd Mondays - 7:30 p.m.; Adults/Spanish - Tuesdays, 7:30 p.m.; Ladies group - Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. Contact Spiritual Life Center, 972-270-6094. See bulletin for other series and formation offerings.

Catholic Counseling Services: Counseling for individuals, families and couples is provided on selected afternoons and evenings at the Spiritual Life Center. Charges based on a sliding scale. Call 214‑526‑2772 appointment.

Christian Living Series: Helping educate parishioners on the life of Jesus Christ, the Roman Catholic Church, and related topics, both the benefits  and responsibilities. Our speakers are parish or diocesan priests, deacons and educators. Coordinators: Jim and Pat Walker, 972-270‑5944, or e‑mail        jimcplc@aol.com. Sundays,9:00‑11:00 a.m., Room 401.     

Day Care Center: SPX Day Care Center was begun with one main goal in mind: to give the children entrusted to us the best care, centered around Christ and His teachings. We want to make sure your children are happy, then listen to them and offer tender loving care. Learning is fun, and play is the most important way for young children to learn. Grief Support Group: Support for adults suffering from the loss of a loved one, in a loving and Christian atmosphere. This group is ongoing and allows for drop‑ins at any time. 2nd and 4th Wed., 7:00‑ 9:00 p.m., Spiritual Life Center.

Guadalapanas: This service‑oriented group of women dedicated to the Blessed Mother provides the annual fiesta for Virgin de Guadalupe. Breakfast fund‑raisers support Fr. O'Brien's orphanage, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Brady Center and Christmas gifts for our priests. Contact Ruby Hernandez, 972-329-5883. 2nd Tuesdays, 7‑9 p.m., Room 401.

Hispanic Advisory Board: Advises the pastor and coordinates the pastoral activities of the Hispanic community of St. Pius. Composed of delegates from the Hispanic Youth Group, Guadalapanas, Baptism Preparation, Marriage Preparation, Hispanic delegate to the Pastoral Council, and liturgical ministers from the 4:00 p.m. Mass, board meets monthly, usually the first Friday of each month. Hospital Visitation Ministry: This ministry is about bringing comfort and support  at times of illness, crises and grief to our parishioners. Our mission is to "Love One Another"; therefore we hope to embody God's love and care especially to those SPX parishioners and families who are ill or for some reason are confined to a hospital. Hospitality Ministry: Helping new people feel welcome as they register in the parish. We try to have a social for members once a year. Coordinator: Peggy Ruby, 972 681‑1842, or email len&peg@msn.com. This work is part of the Ladies Society.

Homebound Assistance Ministry: Provides support to parish shut‑ins through emergency home repairs and yard maintenance, transportation and home visitation.  Part of St. Vincent de Paul Society. HOTLINE: 214‑757‑1148. 

Ladies Mature Singles: Provides opportunities for spiritual growth, moral support, friendship building, and social activities (e.g. card‑playing and pot‑lucks) with women over 35 years. Also contribute to St. Vincent de Paul, Brady Center and the Austin Street Shelter. Contact: Jeanette Rhodes     972-686-7004. 1st Fridays, 1:00 p.m., Brownhouse.

Ladies Society: Provides a loving, open, accepting atmosphere to all women of our parish family that each may feel welcome and become their best at nurturing the motto "Love One Another." Offers fellowship, prayer and gifts of our time and talents. Every adult female parishioner is automatically a member. Contact: Anna Burton, 214-537-1487. Meeting: 1st  Wed., 7:30 p.m., Parish Hall.

Legion of Mary, Mother of God Praesidium: Members evangelize two‑by‑two in parish community, perform spiritual works of mercy, and promote personal satisfaction through devotion to Mary and the rosary. Works are assigned by the pastor. President: Charlotte Klatt, 214-328-6724. This ministry is a part of the international Legion of Mary organization. Tuesdays, 7:30‑9:00 p.m.

Liturgy Committee: Dedicated to coordinating and providing meaningful liturgical practice at the Masses and other liturgies; involves lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, ushers, music, art, altar flowers and environment. Contact: Bob Haddox, 972‑412-1840. 2nd Saturdays.

Marriage Ministries: In recognition of the need for ongoing growth and enrichment for marrieds of all ages and stages, offers periodic enrichment and educational opportunities. Provides formation for sponsor couples who prepare engaged couples for marriage. Also provides support for struggling couples.

Men's Club: Every adult male parishioner is automatically a member. Goals:         maintain an active interest in the life and mission of the Church; unify all         men in programs of Christian action; work in cooperation with our priests and all other parish organizations; foster charity among our members; and promote our parish motto of "Love One Another."   President: Jim Farrell, 972-279-7552.  3rd Fridays, 7:30 p.m., meeting, Parish Hall.

Ministry with the Sick: As we mature spiritually we realize what a blessing it is to bring the Holy Eucharist to those confined to their homes, hospitals and nursing homes.  Our hope is that the Lord will continue to develop an army of Eucharistic Ministers. Contact: Jim Savidge, 214 327-5811.

MOMS: 8‑session series on women's spirituality, offered in Spanish. Promotes spiritual growth, valuing the sacred in the self, prayer, confidentiality and friendship, in a respectful atmosphere of feminine adult learning. Contact: Alicia Valdes, 972‑203‑9449.

Natural Family Planning: Medically safe, highly effective, morally acceptable, marriage strengthening, NFP is a natural method of birth control and fertility awareness, taught in 4 classes. Recommended by the Church. Call Marty and Julie Maxon, 972‑463‑9911, for information and schedule.

Over 55 Club: Open to any SPX parishioner 55 years and up. Activities include monthly meetings, covered dish luncheons, speakers, trips, retreats, workshops, cards and bingo. We support St. Vincent de Paul with canned meats and paper products, and keep up with members experiencing illness or death. We love new members, so join us, 3rd Tuesday of month, 9:30 a.m. Communion service, 10:30 am meeting, Parish Hall; or contact Bill Tobias, 972-279-5618.

Parents, Teachers Organization (PTO): Promotes the spiritual, moral, intellectual, and physical well being of our students by providing a medium for communication and cooperation among the St. Pius X School community. President: Alicia Mendoza, 972-270-4841.

Prayer Cover Ministry: Provides blessed Prayer Covers to those in need of healing, based on scripture, Acts 19:12. Volunteers sew and pray for those receiving the covers. They are distributed at the Healing Mass and by the Eucharistic Ministers. This is part of the Spiritual Life Center. Contact: Luann Nelson,  972-279-2427.

Pro‑Life League: Represents the Bishop's Pro‑Life Committee. We welcome new members and guests who want to share in prayer and in service to defend life, including the unborn, ill, elderly, handicapped and disabled. We also offer education, witness, support and fund‑raising for White Rose Center (for women with problem pregnancies). Chair: Diane Yates, 972‑613‑2989 or 972‑279‑2694.

Prayer and Praise Ministry: Our purpose is to give honor and glory to God through song, Holy Scripture and sharing, bringing us to a deeper relationship with Jesus. Teachings led by Carlos Coronado, MRE and spiritual director, bring a deeper awareness of our Heavenly Father's constant love for us and the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through us. Quilters: We gather once a week on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Our main project is a quilt that we raffle off at the spring carnival. Contact: Lillian Honza, 972-463-4196.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): We seek to share our faith with those adults whom God has called to learn more about the Catholic Church. The team and the participants journey together to a deeper love for our God and His Church. For those who have never been baptized, those who have been baptized in a faith other than Catholic, and for Catholics who want a "refresher" course. Come and see! Religious Education (CCD): Supports parents by teaching our parish public  school and home‑schooled children about their Catholic Faith. Classes offered in English and Spanish. Since parents are the primary religious educators, we encourage all parents to be involved in the program as teachers, assistants, and especially as at‑home re‑enforcers of program. Rosary Group: On Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. we gather weekly to pray the 15-decade rosary in response to Jesus' question "Could you spend one hour with me?" Also Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after the 7:00 p.m. Mass on the Thursday before each First Friday.  Thursdays, following 7p.m. Mass

St. Vincent de Paul Society: Inspired by Gospel values, SVDP is an international Catholic lay organization that leads women and men to grow spiritually by offering their tangible and spiritual support through prayer and one‑on‑one services to all needy and suffering persons within parish boundaries. We provide help while maintaining the privacy and dignity of those served. Coordinator: Phillip Young; HOTLINE 972‑278‑4815. Mondays (except 1st Mondays), 7‑8 p.m., Room 401.

School: St. Pius X School fosters the Catholic commitment to know, love, and serve the Lord as reflected in our parish motto, "Love One Another." Our mission is to recognize the value of each student and to challenge the individual to be a responsible, self‑disciplined, life‑long learner in the service of the Church. Parents and other adults are invited to participate in this effort by helping out in many varied ways. Principal: Dr. Carol Newman, 972‑279‑2339.  

School Advisory Board: Major objectives are to support the school as a clearly Catholic experience with a sound educational environment and high academic standards, as well as to encourage each student to achieve his/her potential. Will Ward, 972-772-4309. 4th Mondays, 7‑9 p.m., Media Center.

Scouts: For the young men in our parish we have three scouting units: two troops             746 and 865. For the boys we have one Cub Pack 746.  The Girl Scouts are divided by age and grades in school. The scouting tradition began at St. Pius over 50 years ago. Spiritual Life Center: Staffed by volunteers, this ministry reaches out in Christ to support through prayer, scripture, listening and friendship. Offers healing of spirit, body, and mind through prayer. Also provides educational, pastoral counseling and bible study opportunities. Director: Andrien Farquharson, 972‑270‑6094, SLPrayerLine@spxdallas.org. Healing Mass ‑ 1st Tuesday, 7:00 p.m.; Pot Luck lunch ‑ Noon, Fridays.
 

Youth Ministry: Exists to bring junior and senior high youth closer to Christ, seeking to draw them fully into the parish community and the greater Catholic community, and to help them foster a fruitful relationship with God. Life Teen liturgy, Sundays, 5:30 p.m., followed by various activities in the Youth House. Numerous special events throughout the year. All adults in the community are invited to become involved! Tomando como pase la ensenanza de Cristo de Amarnos Los Unos a Los Otros, la Iglesia Catolica Romana de St. Pius X esta comprometida a el crecimiento espiritual de su diversa comunidad por medio de oración, educación, y servicio.


Organizaciones en Español

Angeles Somos: Un centro de asistencia para mujeres, bebés, y niños necesitados. Es patrocinado por un grupo de mujeres que desean proveer ayuda emocional y espiritual, asistir en llenar las solicitudes para recibir cuidado médico y también ofrecer una variedad de artículos. Inglés o Español. Si gusta recibir asistencia, donar algunas cosas o ayudar como voluntaria, llama al 972-686-4794. 

Asociación de Hombres de la Parroquia: Todo parroquiano adulto                automáticamente es miembro de esta asociación. Su meta es mantener un interés activo en la vida y la misión de la Iglesia. También, unir a todos los hombres en programas de acción cristiana. Trabajan con los sacerdotes y todas las organizaciones de la parroquia siempre promoviendo el lema "Amémonos los unos a los otros." Esta organización es servicial y social. Se reúnen el tercer viernes del mes en el salón parroquial o casa café. Se comienza con cena a las 7:00 p.m. y luego   sigue la junta, 7:30 p.m. 

 De Madre a Madre - Espiritualidad de Mujeres: El ministerio crea un conocimiento del ser sagrado, mientras enseña a las mujeres de todas edades nuevos modales para dar inspiración, dar ánimo, y afirmarse una a otra. Por el transcurso de este proceso, tiene Ud. la oportunidad de ver claramente cuales son sus valores, reclamar los talentos y habilidades dotados por Dios, y traer esa nueva fuerza a las relaciones con su familia y su comunidad cristiana. Educación Religiosa (CCD): Siendo que los padres son los principales educadores de la fe católica, esta organización presta su apoyo a los padres de los niños que asisten a las escuelas publicas enseñándoles nuestra fe católica. Es importante que los padres de estos niños se  envuelvan en la educación de sus hijos ya sea ayudando como maestros, asistentes de los maestros y especialmente reforzando el programa en el hogar. Grupo de Jovenes Adultos: Sereunen los domingos a las 11 a.m. en salon de jovenes. Este grupo es para jovenes de 19 a 27 años solteros y sin hijos. Para mas informacion favor de comunicarse con Jaqueline Juarez, 214-335-2475. 

La Mesa Directiva Hispana aconseja al párroco y coordina las actividades pastorales de la comunidad hispana de San Pío.  Compuesta de delegados de los Jóvenes, Guadalupanas, Preparación  Bautismal, Preparación Matrimonial, delegado al Concilio Pastoral, y ministerios litúrgicos como acomodadores, lectores, coro, ministros de la Eucaristía, esta mesa se reúne usualmente el primer viernes de cada mes. 

Las Guadalupanas: Proclamar que la Virgen Maria es la Madre de nuestro Salvador, Cristo Jesús y  seguir la tradición de venerarla como nuestra Madre. Prestan su ayuda a seminaristas, la Iglesia, un grupo de huérfanos de Yucatán y el Brady Center. Ruby Hernandez, 972-329-5883.

Lectores: Preparar candidatos para leer la palabra del Señor. Seguir creciendo en la fe y reclutar miembros activos como lectores.  Lourdes Che 214-321-0816. 

Ministerio para Matrimonios: En reconocimiento de la necesidad del continuo crecimiento de nuestros parroquianos casados de todas edades, se ofrecen oportunidades para enriquecer y crecer en su matrimonio. También, se ofrece formación para aquellas parejas que deseen preparar a los novios para recibir el sacramento del Matrimonio. Roberto y Maria Palomeque 214-328-3424.

Nueva Juventud: Somos un grupo que da la bienvenida a todo joven deseoso de conocer a Cristo y que anda en búsqueda de un mundo mejor. Se comportan como jóvenes cristianos de las edades de l4 a 18 anos, sin hijos y conocen y tienen bien claro el objetivo del grupo. Samantha Patterson, 972-682-3585. 

Ministerio de Mantos de Oración: Provee Mantos para hacer Oración de sanación. Basándose en la escritura de Hechos de los Apóstoles 19:12  a tal punto que ponían a los enfermos pañuelos o ropas y sanaban de sus enfermedades. Distribuyen los Mantos en las Misas de Sanación el tercer martes del mes y los Ministros de Eucaristía cuando visitan a los enfermos. Éste Ministerio es parte del Centro de Vida Espiritual. Ministros de Eucaristía: Servimos a nuestra Iglesia y comunidad por la distribución de la Santa Eucaristía durante la misa. Jose y Lidia Hernandez en la Misa de 1:00 p.m. 214-327-2087 y de la Misa de 4:00 p.m. Ivan & Maria Borja, 214-460-9601.              

Servidores del Altar (Monaguillos): Los sacerdotes y diáconos de la parroquia preparan a los  niños y niñas por medio  de reuniones de práctica y crecimiento espiritual. Ivy Hernández 214-327-2788, 972-279-6l55.  

Preparación para el Bautismo: Usualmente el segundo  domingo del mes, después de la misa de 4:00 p.m. Esta clase demuestra lo  importante que es este sacramento que da la bienvenida a los hijos de Dios. Para asistir a estas clases tienen que inscribirse en la oficina con Lilia Luna. También aprendemos espiritualidad familiar y valores cristianos. Coro: Los ensayos del coro de la Misa de 4:00 p.m. son los jueves a las 7:00 p.m. en la cuarto 404 y lo dirige el maestro de música  Juan Dávila 972-237-9819. El coro de la Misa de 1:00 p.m. en este momento esta completo. Lo dirige Davis Lira.  

Acomodadores: Dan la bienvenida a la gente que asiste cada domingo a misa y                    entregan los libros de lecturas y de cantos, se encargan de la colecta y dejar la              iglesia en orden después de la misa. Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl:  San Vicente de Paúl es una organización Católica internacional que ofrece apoyo tangible y espiritual. Proveen ayuda manteniendo la privacidad y dignidad de las personas que ayudan. 972-278-4815.
